Music for a Month benefits youth

Wednesday, February 27, 2008

Discussions with local elementary school music teachers, led Chamber Music Charleston to create its Music for a Month program.

The idea is to provide supplemental hands-on musical experiences led by professional musicians to bring music education for the city's youth to its greatest potential.

Through the program, professional musicians visit a classroom once a week for four consecutive weeks with the goal of nurturing young students' appreciation for music and cultivating them as tomorrow's audience for classical music. The target audience is first- through third-graders.

CMC recently concluded one set of Music for a Month programs at Charleston Catholic School and James Simons Elementary School with "Peter and the Wolf" for first- and second-grade students.
